Drip For Drip is the portfolio of commercial illustrator and designer Wijtze Valkema (1983). Graduated in 2005 and having completed internships at boutique design agencies and a record label in the Netherlands and USA, Wijtze jumped into a freelance career. Embracing editorial illustration as the majority of his work week, he is happy to provide the visual part of stories for newspapers, magazines and online media whilst still keeping his designer chops collaborating with agencies, brands and publishers on projects ranging from logos to murals to books to apparel to packaging and more.
Wijtze believes context and application come first. His work process focuses on the composition and making the illustration work well within the context of the final product, or have illustrations help build a graphic identity or design.
Hiring an freelancer is not just trading artwork for money, it's a collaboration between people, working together to make a product that's meant to be seen and experienced by people. Both the freelancer and the client get to hold the pencil in this process, a philosophy Wijtze wrote about in his blog Both Hands On The Pencil
His personal work often includes printing in some form, as it offers a tangible framework for otherwise flat, digital shapes. Wijtze is also an active cyclist and guitar picker.
