We're constantly looking for interesting artists on Instagram. We will be introducing them every tuesday in a series called Introtuesday. Please meet Belfast based illustrator, typographer & designer Jacky Sheridan.
What are you working on at the moment? I'm drawing some illustrations based on interesting Irish words as I write this - I'm a bit of a word nerd so thank God I was born Irish and have my own lovely minority language to explore! My favourite so far is 'gadhrach' which means 'dog lover' or a 'place with lots of dogs' (credit for this info goes out to @theirishfor).
What is your work process like? My work process is a two pronged attack depending- for personal work I tend to prefer to really just jump right in and draw, starting playing around creatively from the get go. Whereas I approach client work totally differently- I have a lot more of an analytical method with endless list making, thumbnail sketching and a really intensive research and referencing process before I go anywhere near starting to illustrate. I think when you're working to please other people rather than yourself you really need to make sure you know your shit and take all their needs into account.
Favorite work snack? A bottomless bag of pistachios and as many tins of Coke as necessary.
What do you do when you find yourself stuck in the creative process? My favourite thing to do is get the fuck away from my computer and go back to basics- if I've time, I'll go wander around the nearest gallery, if I don't I just do an insane amount of spider diagrams and word association techniques for ideation.
