We're constantly looking for interesting artists on Instagram. We will be introducing them every tuesday in a series called Introtuesday. Please meet Paris, France based illustrator Lisa Laubreaux.
What are you working on at the moment? Currently I am working on a children's book about boats with Fotokino (a wonderful gallery in Marseille). It's a book-game, we tried it with kids at the Marseille shipyard. I'm also drawing for Optimum magazine. It's a magazine for men, I have to make manly illustrations, which is new to me. I am collaborating with a carpenter who's in my studio building, making painted wooden character for the Playtime exhibition. It's real fun, the characters look totally stupid.
What is your work process like? In my illustrations, I grant a particular care to the composition and the balance, by working with free materials (charcoal, lead or pencil) before defining the strokes, using the nib of the pencil, and I finally bring into play digital tools. Drawing inspiration from popular conceptions and daily life, I use coloured aesthetics and a simple stroke to transpose, with a playful touch, the world I live in.
Do you approach client work differently than personal work? I have the same approach for client work and personal projects but the subjects of my drawings are different. It's interesting to have constraints: that way I am discovering new things about my work and about my possibilities.
Favorite work snack? I always eat cheese, it's my passion. With coffeemy favorite is camembert and bread, it's delicious ! (Especially early in the morning).
Anypersonal projects on the side that you're excited about?Currently, I am creating a lot of print for christmas on my online shop. It's really cool because I finally use illustrations that I loved and I never printed before. In january I will create some ceramics with my friend Émil in Luxembourg. We're going to make big vases with naked women on it. For now we send each other drawings with naked women from space, on the beach, with tigers, etc.
