We're constantly looking for interesting artists on Instagram. We will be introducing them every tuesday in a series called Introtuesday. Please meet Eugene, USA based illustrator Aren Vandenburgh.
What are you working on at the moment? Right now I'm working on a series of three posters for the city of Eugene, Oregon, that are focused around preventing food waste.
What is your work process like? On pretty much all projects, client-based or personal, I like to start out by brain storming, list making and thumbnail sketching. From there I like to do a refined sketch (if I have time), which gets brought into Illustrator where I make shapes that later act as a sort of stencil for my finished artwork in Photoshop.
Favourite work snack? As unhealthy as I'm sure this sounds, I try not to eat while I'm working. I work in the evening a lot, so food usually becomes a bit of a motivator ("Finish this damn thing, then you get your dinner"). If I break to eat, often my motivation is zapped and I just want to lay on my back and watch TV.
Any personal projects on the side that you're excited about? I'm working on a new 3-color screen print about urban wildlife. I really love the idea that within our modern world we're quietly surrounded by critters going about their business.
